About us

Hensbacka Hotell & Restaurang is located in one of Bohuslän's most historically rich landscapes. Here, thousands of years of traces of human life, magnificent nature and a modern business where hospitality and experiences are at the center come together.

A place with 11,000 years of history

The area around Hensbacka is considered one of the oldest known settlements in Western Sweden. People lived here as early as 11,000 years ago, as confirmed by extensive finds from the Upper Stone Age. The thousands of flint finds found in the area have given their name to the so-called Hensbacka culture, which is well known in archaeology.

The manor house was built in 1730 by Lieutenant Colonel Liljehöök and has been a private residence for much of its history. With its high location above the valley, between fertile farmland and the sea at Gullmarsfjorden, the site has had strategic and cultural significance throughout the centuries.

In 1946, Hensbacka was purchased by the Swedish Forestry Board and was then used as a forestry school for several decades. This period has left a clear mark on the area through student dormitories, utility buildings and business premises that are still part of the whole.

During the 2000s, Hensbacka entered a new era and began to develop as a hotel and conference facility – carefully adapted for operations with great respect for the history and character of the place. Today, the manor building itself is a private residence, while the hotel, restaurant and conference operations are conducted in the adjacent buildings in the area.

A new chapter

Since May 2025, Hensbacka Hotell & Restaurang has been run by Jon Bock, who quickly left his mark on the place. With roots on the Bohus coast and growing up in a restaurant environment, Jon early developed a natural feeling for service and meeting people.

Jon has worked extensively in the hotel and restaurant industry - from dishwashing and serving to kitchen and operations - in various locations around Sweden, but always with a strong pull back to the coast. For him, the profession is not just about food and accommodation, but about creating experiences that feel authentic and personal.

When he came to Hensbacka, it was the tranquility, nature and the soul of the place that captured him. Together with his team, he has built on the genuineness and developed the business step by step, with the goal of constantly developing Hensbacka and making the place an obvious destination on the map - for both private guests and companies.

The food at Hensbacka is prepared with a focus on quality and good ingredients. The menus are well thought out and adapted to the season, with the ambition that each dish will maintain a high standard without being complicated.

Today, Hensbacka is a place for weddings, conferences, celebrations and meetings. A manor house environment where people gather for both everyday life and life's bigger occasions, and where every stay is shaped by presence and personal service.
